Assistant Director, Extended Day Program
​​
Our play based, child centered, co-operative preschool is searching for an enthusiastic Assistant Director of the Extended Day Program to help create a nurturing and enriching space for young learners. This position provides a bridge between our Morning and Afternoon Programs by overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Afternoon Program and Summer Camp, while also supporting the Co-op Morning Program alongside the Director and Morning Program Assistant Director. The Assistant Director of the Extended Day Program will work closely with the Director to ensure that the Afternoon and Summer Programs align with the philosophy, goals, and mission of The Oaks. What You’ll Do:

Create and maintain a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment for the children and their families consistent with the philosophy of The Oaks.

Plan, post and implement a developmentally-appropriate play based curriculum for the Afternoon Program, designed to promote children’s social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth.

Implement sustainable “green” practices; reduce, reuse, recycle whenever possible. Work with The Oaks community to reduce our environmental footprint.

Provide a developmentally appropriate rest period for all children.

Be present on-site until all children have been picked up.

Assist in diapering and toileting routines, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and providing assistance as needed in a respectful and nurturing manner.

Supervise and act as a mentor to Afternoon Teachers.

Work with the Morning Program Assistant Director to maintain inventory and order materials.

Oversee the sanitization of the napping cots/mats on a weekly basis and the sanitization of the tables and door knobs at the end of each day.

Coordinate with the Director, Morning Program Assistant Director, and Parent Board to facilitate additional programming needs.

Continue professional education by attending conferences or classes and by reading current literature in the field of early childhood education, and positive discipline strategies/conflict resolution.

Monitor and maintain accurate afternoon attendance sign-in and sign-out sheets.

Attend staff meetings, periodic board meetings and Oaks events as determined by the Director and the Parent Board.

Attend the first evening class of each semester.

Attend Oaks community and fundraising events, such as: the annual Auction; potlucks; the Progressive Dinner and other important community-building events, as requested by the Director and Parent Board.

Attend board meetings at the request of the Parent Board (as needed).

Attend and participate in registration, orientation, and set-up days (the week before school is scheduled to start).

What We’re Looking For:
-
Child Development Program Director or Site Supervisor Permit
-
Supervision of two or more early childhood education teachers in a Community Care Licensed program.
-
One of the following:
-
Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in child development, carly childhood education, human development, family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development or early childhood education, education psychology with a specialization in child development, elementary education, psychology or family life studies; and two years of professional experience in early childhood programs or parenting education; OR
-
A combination of education and other accomplishments that are equivalent to the above. (If claiming equivalency, attach a separate statement, which presents the basis for the claim and submit supporting evidence, e.g., transcripts, publications, and other work products.); OR
-
Possession of a lifetime California community college instructor credential in nursery school and preschool
-

Bilingual in English and Spanish is ideal but not required.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace and basic office equipment.

Friendly, approachable, and able to work well with children, parents, and staff.
-
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
-
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Other Qualifications
The following CCL requirements must be satisfied, prior to employment:

TB test clearance and up-to-date immunizations

Current Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR Certificate

Criminal background clearance

Full-Time Schedule

School Year (Aug–June): Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5:30 PM (follows SBCC academic calendar). Unpaid breaks during Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring Break.

Summer Camp (June–Aug): Monday–Friday, 8 AM–2 PM (dates set by Directors & Parent Board).
